Title: Church is Boring?
Date: Aug 3, 2005
Topic(s): Obedience/Discipleship
Scripture: Hebrews 10:25

<  previous date next date  >

Have you ever felt that church is like a Chinese water torture--week after week, service after service, drop after drop? Every time the church doors are open, there you are, sitting in the pew, dutifully waiting for the service to get over so that you can go do something fun. If this describes you, then maybe God's Word can change your perspective.

What Does God Say?

The writer of Hebrews says, "And let us not neglect our meeting together, as some people do, but encourage and warn each other, especially now that the day of his coming back again is drawing near" (Hebrews 10:25, NLT).

  • Church has an upward focus as we worship God, but there's also an outward focus. What two responsibilities does the writer of Hebrews say that you have when you go to church?
  • What is the motivation for doing this?
  • Do you think the likelihood is high for Christ returning in your lifetime? Why or why not?

My Thoughts

If you knew that Christ was returning in the next week or so, how would this affect your attitude toward church? Draw a picture (stick figures are fine) of what you would like for Him to find you doing when He returns.

My Part

Church is boring when you're just a spectator. But God intended for our meetings to be opportunities not only to worship Him but also to interact with other Christians. When you go to church this week, look for a way to encourage someone.

Additional Scripture to read: Psalm 27:4-6; 84:4
