Dreams. We've all got them. Some people dream of being an Olympic athlete. Other people dream of being a concert pianist, an astronaut or a famous movie star. There's nothing wrong with dreams. But sometimes circumstances don't allow those dreams to happen the way we want. So, what do we do?

What Does God Say?

Joseph, the husband-to-be of Mary had a dream for his life. He planned to marry a wonderful girl, settle down and raise a family. Then something happened to change that dream. Mary was found to be pregnant. Matthew 1:18 says, "After His mother Mary was betrothed to Joseph, before they came together, she was found with child of the Holy Spirit" (NKJV). At first Joseph considered rejecting her as his wife, but after a visit from an angel in a night vision, the Bible says:

"Then Joseph, being aroused from sleep, did as the angel of the Lord commanded him and took to him his wife, and did not know her till she had brought forth her firstborn Son. And he called His name JESUS (Matthew 1:24-25, NKJV).

  • Who seemed to be responsible for causing Joseph's dream to change?
  • Who was actually the person behind these events?
  • What was Joseph's ultimate response to this disappointment

My Thoughts

If God has allowed circumstances to change your dream, are you willing to submit to this new direction? On a separate piece of paper, express your willingness to follow God's new dream for your life. Use this as a prayer of acceptance.

My Part

An old poem says that "in acceptance lieth peace." Allow God to change your dreams to fit His purpose. Seek the peace that comes from knowing your Heavenly Father's plans for your life far exceed any dream you might have.
