Title: Living to Please God
Some people are hard to please. I remember the story of a husband who asked his wife to cook two eggs--one fried and one poached. Dutifully she did, but when she served them, the husband took one look and said, "I might have known, you fried the wrong one." Is God that hard to please? Can we live a life that's pleasing to Him? Let's see what the Bible says. What Does God Say?The writer of Hebrews 11:5-6 informs us: "By faith Enoch was taken away so that he did not see death, 'and was not found, because God had taken him'; for before he was taken he had this testimony, that he pleased God. But without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him" (NKJV).
But if faith is the key to a life that is pleasing God, what is it? Hebrews 11:1 says, "What is faith? It is the confident assurance that what we hope for is going to happen. It is the evidence of things we cannot yet see" (NLT).
My ThoughtsFaith is important in many areas of our lives. To the right of each of the items below draw a line and divide it into five equal sections, with the first section representing "little faith" and the last section representing "great faith." Put a dot where you believe your "faith level" lies along this line for each item.
My PartIn what area is your faith the weakest? Share this with a trusted friend, and together pray that God will help you to learn to trust Him more each day in this particular area. In what area is your faith the strongest? Ask the Lord to bring someone into your life whose faith needs to be strengthened in this area. Be a mentor and an encourager for that person as they seek to become stronger in this aspect of their faith. As you grow in your faith, you will find your life more and more pleasing to God.
