We all know that children can act immature. Of course, the younger and less experienced a child is, the more immature he or she acts. The problem with most churches today is that many Christians are not maturing. They are not "coming to worship and then leaving to serve." Rather, they expect the church to meet their needs without expecting anything back from them.

What Does God Say?

What's the secret to spiritual maturity? The apostle Paul says this:

"Until we come to such unity in our faith and knowledge of God's Son that we will be mature and full grown in the Lord, measuring up to the full stature of Christ. Then we will no longer be like children, forever changing our minds about what we believe because someone has told us something different or because someone has cleverly lied to us and made the lie sound like the truth. Instead, we will hold to the truth in love, becoming more and more in every way like Christ, who is the head of his body, the church" (Ephesians 4:13-15, NLT).

  • How do we measure maturity? (See v. 13.)
  • What two things must be harmonized for maturity? (See v. 13.)
  • List two characteristics of children from verse 14.
  • What is God's desire for every believer? (See v. 15.)
  • What makes maturity possible for a Christian? (See v. 15.)

My Thoughts

Write down two steps you can take now to move toward greater spiritual maturity.

My Part

Ask God to fulfill His purpose for your life and each day, beginning today, to make you more like Jesus.
