Title: Living in Obedience
When the Wasp, one of America's great naval vessels in World War II, caught fire and began to sink, the sailors were ordered to abandon ship and swim away immediately. The men readily jumped overboard, but instead of swimming to safety, many clung to the sides of the ship. When the vessel sank these sailors were sucked down with it, because they failed to obey. Disobedience in the life of those who claim to be followers of Christ can be equally devastating. Let's look at what the Bible tells us. What Does God Say?"So since God's grace has set us free from the law, does this mean we can go on sinning? Of course not! Don't you realize that whatever you choose to obey becomes your master? You can choose sin, which leads to death, or you can choose to obey God and receive his approval. Thank God! Once you were slaves of sin, but now you have obeyed with all your heart the new teaching God has given you. Now you are free from sin, your old master, and you have become slaves to your new master, righteousness" (Romans 6:15-18, NLT).
My ThoughtsIf you have received Christ as your Savior, sin will not keep you out of heaven. However, it will have other serious consequences. Look at what happened to some of the Christ-followers in Corinth who chose to continue in disobedience. (Read 1 Corinthians 11:30.) My PartIf you realize that you've been choosing to serve the wrong master, now is the time to do something about it. Confess your sin to God (1 John 1:9). In the next couple of weeks, find a mature Christian friend who will pray with you and encourage you to make the right choices in your life.
