Title: Living What You Believe
Originally, Greek tragedies had only one actor. This actor, called a hypocrities, portrayed the different characters by changing his mask and costume. That's where we get our English word hypocrite, meaning one who pretends to be something he or she is not. Unfortunately, this kind of hypocrisy also exists in the church. If a person is going to "talk the talk," he or she needs to also "walk the walk." Let's look at what the Bible has to say about this. What Does God Say?"And do this, knowing the time, that now it is high time to awake out of sleep; for now our salvation is nearer than when we first believed. The night is far spent, the day is at hand. Therefore let us cast off the works of darkness, and let us put on the armor of light. Let us walk properly, as in the day, not in revelry and drunkenness, not in lewdness and lust, not in strife and envy. But put on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make no provision for the flesh, to fulfill its lusts" (Romans 13:11-14, NKJV).
My ThoughtsDo you find yourself slipping back into the "old" way of life? It's easy to do. That's why the apostle Paul says you need to not only "cast off" the old ways, but "put on the armor of light." We need not only to stop doing what we shouldn't do, but we also need to start doing what we should. My PartTake the four activities you listed above that a Christ-follower should stop doing, and list a substitute that would be consistent with your new life.
