Date: Oct 24, 2005
Topic(s): Sin/Temptation
Scripture: Genesis 39

What is it that can cause the faith of a Christian to falter? And the answer is. . . temptation. While there are many kinds of temptation, most often we think of being tempted in the moral or sexual area. Why is it that giving into temptation sexually can be so devastating to our faith?

What Does God Say?

Giving in to immorality causes our faith to falter because we are being disobedient to God--the source and focus of our faith.

Read the following verses and list the names of others who have also recognized this truth.

  • Genesis 39:7-9
  • Psalm 51:1,4
  • Acts 5:4

My Thoughts

How do we handle temptation? Dr. Woodrow Kroll of Back to the Bible provides insight:

The greatest weapon against temptation is to run. The best thing I can do if sin is there, is to get myself out of there. The Bible consistently teaches the best thing to do is leave.

From the verses below, write down the lessons they teach you about temptation and keeping your faith strong.

  • Proverbs 4:14-15
  • 2 Timothy 2:22
  • 1 Corinthians 10:13

My Part

Memorize the verses above. When faced with temptation, use them to strengthen your faith. Find someone of the same gender who would be willing to meet with you regularly to discuss your temptations and pray with you concerning them. Write a prayer to God asking for His help to keep your faith from faltering.
